Presentation of 3 new cars

Aston Martin Valkyrie ’21

A uniquely shaped hypercar with F1-derived aerodynamics.

Aston Martin is one of the UK’s best-loved luxury sports car manufacturers. This hypercar, the Valkyrie, is the result of nearly 110 years of experience combined with the know-how of the Red Bull Racing F1 team. The design was born out of an innovative road car idea developed by Red Bull Racing designer and aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey. Newey took his proposal to Aston Martin, where he teamed up with chief designer Marek Reichman. In 2016, the project started under the name “AM-RB 001”. The car developed under the code name AM-RB 001 was first shown at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show with its official name Valkyrie. Production versions of the Valkyrie were first seen in 2021, taking the form of a uniquely shaped hypercar that incorporated F1-derived aerodynamics with Aston Martin’s design language. The car’s high nose is fitted with an overhanging wing and creates powerful downforce through Venturi tunnels under the body. Between them is the teardrop-shaped cockpit, where driver and passenger sit with their feet up in formula car style. Significant weight improvements have been implemented throughout the carbon fiber bodywork, and even the Aston Martin nose badge has been reduced to a 70 micron thick piece of aluminium. As a result, the car weighs around 1,000 kg, achieving an incredible power-to-weight ratio of 1.01 kg/BHP. The hybrid power unit is mounted in the rear of the cabin, a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter Cosworth V12 engine with KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). Total system output is 1,140 BHP, putting the car on par with higher-grade race machines. The Valkyrie was first made available in a limited run of 150 coupé models, which sold out almost immediately despite costing over £2 million. The coupé was followed by the Le Mans-style “AMR pro” competition model and a “Spider” convertible model. This pinnacle of performance has made a name for itself as one of the first hypercars to reach the level of an LMP1 machine.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR ’95

Improved aerodynamics and cooling create the first generation of the ultimate “Evo”.

The Lancer Evolution was launched in September 1992. Taking the compact body of the Lancer commercial sedan and adding Mitsubishi engines used only in the Galant VR-4 WRC, the Lancer Evolution became a rally-oriented car. The heart of this car was the 4G63, a 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged inline-4 engine, with a power output of 246.5 hp and a torque of 31.5 mkgf at launch. With incredible traction and power distributed to all wheels, it reaches much higher speeds than other models in the same category. A year after its creation, in December 1993, the upgraded Lancer Evolution II was unveiled, with maximum power increased to 256.4 BHP. The tires were changed to 205/60R15, and changes to the wheelbase and tread size were also implemented. Around this time, he began to be called by his famous nickname, “Lan-Evo”, by Japanese fans. Another evolution took place in January 1995. The 3rd generation, called Lancer Evolution III, saw its exterior drastically modified to improve aerodynamic performance. With a larger opening in the front bumper and a larger rear spoiler, it had the powerful look of a race-oriented vehicle. The compression ratio of the 4G63 drive unit has been increased to 9.0, improving peak power to 266.3 BHP. The suspension also saw changes and improvements, and these changes greatly improved engine performance and handling. At the time, the base model Lancer was about to receive a complete model change, and there was talk that the Evo III might just be the last Evo.

Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi ’04

The 2nd generation of the Impreza, developed together with the rally model.

Just a year after the launch of the radical Spec C, in November 2002, a redesign of the Impreza series was already underway. Although loved by many, the previous round headlights were unpopular with the mass market and were replaced by new, towering teardrop headlights. This time, in joint development with SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team), it was possible to create better aerodynamic characteristics. As for performance, a twin-scroll turbo system for better spool efficiency and a modified exhaust system were introduced. The crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods were strengthened, allowing the engine to produce 40.2 kgfm, the highest torque value in the 2-litre class at the time. Some manual transmission models were also equipped with a piloted center differential with an automatic mode. Depending on the cornering conditions, the distribution of torque to the front and rear of the center differential was automatically distributed, and the car showed high efficiency on circuits and on winding roads. In June 2004, a model with larger tires was launched. It was a response to motorsport demands, such as Super Taikyu endurance racing. The maximum torque was also increased to 42.0 kgfm at this time. The Impreza has become famous as one of Japan’s most representative high-performance cars, recognized by enthusiasts around the world. From 2003, the STi model was exported to the United States. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution also starting to be exported, this fierce rivalry extends beyond the borders of Japan.
