There are already six stores of the Polish brand in our country.

It was last August that the first information emerged. the polish retailer Pepcowhich sells products from around 500 categories at affordable prices, announced its arrival in Portugal in the spring of 2023, with the aim of opening stores in Porto, Lisbon and the Algarve.

“In Portugal, the company is currently looking to work with landlords and real estate agents, to secure the long-term rental of stores of more than 450 square meters, up to more than 700 square meters in retail parks. and shopping centres, in cities and towns with more than 15,000 inhabitants”according to a press release issued at the time.

Last February, the group’s director of operations for Portugal and Spain, Jorge Barrie Ruizpublicly stated that the brand’s intention was to settle “Coimbra, Albufeira, Olhão, Elvas and Lisbon until the end of summer 2023”.

And it is precisely this space in Coimbra, the first pepco store in Portugal, that we had the opportunity to visit on May 18, at Coimbra Business Park (threshing floors).

Pepco has arrived in Portugal with its wider format – Pepco Plus

The first Pepco store in Portugal opted for its widest format – Pepco Plus – different from the usual standard stores available in the EEC. This means a larger store offering products from three categories. Customers can find Pepco’s classic offering, both for home and clothing, comprising around 500 product categories, with an average of around 12,000 different products in an individual store, regularly updated with 80 new collections every season.

A larger store format also means additional space for fast-moving consumer goods such as hygiene, cleaning and laundry products, personal care items, snacks, beverages, confectionery and categories for pets, with well-known brands such as: Coke, Kinder, toblerone, pantene, Elvive, Oral B, Colgate, fairy, Pringles, among others. All with low prices and, in addition, there are also a variety of exclusive brands or hard-to-find products, such as Vimto, Walkers, jaffa cakes, Roll, by Reese Or Milky Way.

“Pepco stores, which combine clothing and FMCG, are a new concept that was successfully launched last year in Spain, where we have more than 150 stores. Customer response has been very positive. The combination of very good prices, the current Portuguese offer available, renowned products and brands, allows the new proposal that Pepco will bring to the Portuguese market. As an example, I can indicate that a product such as a 100% cotton children’s sweater will be available, without promotion, at the price of 2.50—explains Jorge Barrie Ruiz.

Pepco is continually expanding its line of better-for-the-planet products. The chain’s offering includes clothing made from eco-friendly organic cotton, including GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified clothing. The brand is also part of the Better Cotton Initiative, one of the largest non-governmental organizations that supports environmentally friendly and socially responsible cotton cultivation. In stores, customers can find products with the OEKO-TEX safety certificate and household items of natural origin, made from straw, grass and bamboo – without the unnecessary use of plastic. The brand’s offer also includes products made from certified wood and paper (FSC).

Also in May, the brand opened new stores, one in Ria Shopping Olhaonot another Albufeira Shopping Park. And already in June there were two new openings, specifically in Elvas and Tavira, in what was the third store in the Algarve region.

But with an ambitious expansion plan, Pepco wasn’t going to stop there. And that’s why last Friday, July 14, she opened a new store, this time at BPlanet, in Coina (Barreiro). It is therefore the brand’s first store in the Lisbon metropolitan area.

In addition, we also know that the brand will open stores in Porto, Aveiro, Braga, Lisbon, among other strategic locations, by the end of the year.
